I have undergone numerous career changes, but the two passions that have formed an ongoing theme throughout my life have been my love of animals and my twin obsessions with art and photography. From an early age I enjoyed drawing and copying photographs of horses, dogs, cats or wildlife.
The greater part of my working life was spent as a veterinarian. I lived on a small rural block with my husband and daughter. He managed the property as a pig farm and I owned my own veterinary practice in Warnbro, Western Australia.
I studied Art and Design at Rockingham Tafe, but the demands of being on call 24 hours a day in a busy veterinary practice prevented me from accomplishing much in the way of recreational art for many years after I completed the art course.
Our own domestic pets included horses, a dog and multiple cats. Whether they were expensive horses, rottweilers or recycled moggies from work, they all enriched our lives and acted as (sometimes reluctant) models for my artistic endeavours. Some of my early paintings of horses resulted from sketching and photographing my own animals or from drawing horses exercising on the beach.
I have now retired from veterinary work and am able to indulge my passion for painting and photography full time. I have explored many different mediums over the years but always return to oils. I prefer to work from my own photographs, as I value the spiritual connection between myself and that particular animal or bird. I regularly attend equine events such as, polocrosse matches or Clydesdale shows searching for the scene that exemplifies the enjoyment, connection and interaction between people and their animals. The local horse and dog beach remains a valuable source of inspiration.
I have exhibited and sold work in many group exhibitions and held my second solo exhibition in November 2017. I am a member of Rockingham Regional Arts Inc. and exhibit regularly in their shows.
I have exhibited in combined exhibitions at York, Beverley, Harvey, Pinjarra, Melville, Gosnells, Cossack, Dardanup, Boddington, Army Art Awards, Cruising Yacht Club, Rockingham Beach Cup Exhibition, Morawa, Wanneroo, Mundijong and Mandjar Art Awards (Mandurah).
